Willie E. Gary and Special Guests Motivate Children
To “Dream Big Dreams”
Jacksonville, FL-- Willie E. Gary, prominent attorney and Chairman of the Black Family Channel, and Evander Holyfield, Four-Time Heavyweight Champion of the World, lent a helping hand to disadvantaged communities and youth in Jacksonville, Florida as part of the Super Bowl XXXIX festivities. Gary reminded Super Bowl attendees that the Super Bowl is more than just a game. Rather, it represents how hard work and perseverance will lead to success.
Gary hosted “Dream Big Dreams” Role Model Day, for over 800 middle and high school students in an effort to motivate them to strive for academic excellence as they prepared for the FCAT exam. Role Model Day took place at Raines High School in Jacksonville. Special guests included actors Tommy Ford and Carl Payne, and Jimmy Smith of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The children enjoyed hearing the success stories and motivational words from Gary and the guest speakers. DJ Dr. Doom played the latest music, Chick-Fil-A provided lunches and Starbucks served Coolatta frozen treats to the attendees.
While in Jacksonville, Gary and Holyfield also took part in the Convoy of Hope’s community outreach day by handing out groceries to families in need. The Convoy of Hope is a world-wide, non-profit organization that provides resources on a local level to meet physical and spiritual needs, with the purpose of making communities a better place.
“It is our responsibility to be positive role models for young people,” said Gary. “We all face challenges in our lives, and it is how we handle ourselves during those times that children learn from the most. Through events such as Role Model Day, children realize that with hard work and determination, their dreams can come true,” Gary continued.
Gary is noted for taking on some of America’s most powerful companies--winning billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Gary is also the Chairman of the Black Family Channel, America’s only minority owned and operated, 24-hour cable network. Known for his philanthropic endeavors, he and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded The Gary Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities – including $10 million to his alma mater Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
