Attorney and Chairman of the Black Family Channel, Willie Gary, and the Gary Foundation Awarded 20 Computers to the Music Department at
Bethune-Cookman College
STUART, FL– Willie Gary, prominent attorney, Chairman of the Black Family Channel and founder of the Gary Foundation, has partnered with Dell Computers to award 20 computer systems to the new, state of the art, music technology lab at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida. Computer technology is an integral part of the music curriculum and the Dell computers will distinctively enhance the learning experience for students in the music department. The contribution was made on behalf of the Gary Foundation.
Gary and his eldest son, Kenneth Gary, President and CEO of the Gary Foundation, presented the computers to Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed, President of Bethune-Cookman College and Dr. Hiram Powell, Head of the music department. The presentation took place on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at the music technology lab on the campus of Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach. Faculty members and students were in attendance and expressed appreciation for the generous gift.
“Through my family, my firm and my foundation, I have dedicated myself to educating our young people,” said Gary. “It is an honor to partner with Dell Computers, who is committed to serving the youth of this community through this significant contribution. We hope these computers will greatly enhance the educational experience for the entire student body at Bethune-Cookman College,” continued Gary.
“This gift advances the capabilities of our music technology program and provides expanded opportunities for all students majoring in music at Bethune-Cookman College. We are all grateful for Mr. Gary’s investment in our young people,” stated Dr. Hiram C. Powell, Head of the Bethune-Cookman music department.
Gary is well-known for his philanthropic endeavors. In 1994, he and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded The Gary Foundation which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including a $10 million donation to his alma mater, Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
