Gary Encourages Attendees to “Reach Back and Help the Less Fortunate”

Stuart, FL – Willie E. Gary, prominent attorney and Chairman of the Black Family Channel, recently served as the keynote speaker at the inaugural fundraising and awards gala, hosted by the Berean Community and Family Life Center.

Held at the historic Brooklyn Marriott Hotel in Brooklyn, New York, more than 400 attendees including Congressman Edolphus Towns and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, gathered to hear Gary’s message on the topic of:  “Hearts of Hope and Hands that Help in the Hood.”  Gary spoke about the importance of contributing time, money and resources to benefit worthy causes.  In addition, Gary emphasized the obligation to reach back and help the less fortunate.

“There is no reason why you can’t make money and make a difference at the same time,” said Gary.  “What matters most is not what you have done for yourselves; but what you have done to help the least of these.  It is up to each of us assembled here today to heed the call of leadership and make a difference in the lives of the underserved and downtrodden,” continued Gary.

In recognition of Gary’s charitable efforts and accomplishments as an attorney, Congressman Towns presented Gary with a proclamation from the House of Representatives.  Congressman Towns also praised Gary for succeeding against insurmountable odds, and commended Gary for his unwavering “commitment and generosity in helping others.”

Gary is noted for taking on some of America’s most powerful companies, winning billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Gary is also the Chairman of the Black Family Channel, America’s only minority owned and operated, cable television network dedicated to positive programming for the entire family.

Known for his philanthropic endeavors, Gary and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded the Gary Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including $10 million to his alma mater Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
