Gary Commends Recipients of the
“Distinguished Alumni” Award

Stuart, FL-- Willie E. Gary, prominent attorney and Chairman of the Black Family Channel, recently served as the keynote speaker at the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Education (NAFEO) Distinguished Alumni Luncheon held in Washington, D.C. As a past NAFEO honoree, Gary commended the award recipients for their academic and professional achievements and encouraged them to give back to Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Gary addressed over 200 guests including alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities from across the Nation, who were honored with the “Distinguished Alumni Award” for their outstanding accomplishments. The Distinguished Alumni Luncheon was part of the 2005 NAFEO National Leadership Summit, which brings together key decision makers in the education, philanthropic, corporate and faith based communities with the common goal of understanding primary issues of concern regarding Blacks in higher education.

“Giving back to Historically Black Colleges and Universities is a topic that is very near and dear to my heart,” said Gary. “I cannot emphasize enough, how important it is to support HBCUs and to do what we can to ensure the future success of these institutions for our children and grandchildren. Shaw University gave me the opportunity to succeed in life, and for that, I am forever indebted,” continued Gary.

Gary is noted for taking on some of America’s most powerful companies--winning billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Gary is also the Chairman of the Black Family Channel, America’s only minority owned and operated, 24-hour cable network devoted to family programming. Known for his philanthropic endeavors, he and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded The Gary Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities – including $10 million to his alma mater Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
