Stuart, FL-- Willie E. Gary,
prominent attorney and chairman of the Black Family Channel,
recently expressed his continued support of athletic programs at
Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), by presenting
Norfolk State University with $10,000 for the men’s basketball team.
The presentation took place during a star-studded fundraising gala
which was attended by a-list entertainers including actors Tommy
Ford, Michael Beach and Clifton Davis, and comedian Katt Williams,
and many others.
Gary joined over 500 guests at the
grand affair which included an evening of live R&B music, dinner,
dancing, a silent auction and an entertaining live auction which was
hosted by Tommy Ford and Katt Williams. The attire for the evening
was all black. Thousands of dollars were raised for the Norfolk
State University men’s basketball program during the event, which
was organized by the men’s basketball head coach, Dwight Freeman.
Gary, a premier sponsor of the gala, presented Coach Freeman with a
$10,000 check. Gary also challenged guests to also support
Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
“We have an obligation to give back
to Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” said Gary. “Let us
be reminded that many of us were afforded opportunities for
educational advancement only because of HBCUs, so we don’t have a
right to turn our backs. It is up to us to lend a hand to these
institutions and I hope the money raised by this worthy cause will
lead the basketball team and the university to even greater
success,” continued Gary.
Gary, who is best known in legal
circles for taking on some of
America’s most powerful companies--winning billions of dollars in
verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Gary is also the
chairman of the Black Family Channel, America’s only minority owned

endeavors, he and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded The Gary
Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students
who wish to attend college. Through the Willie Gary Football Classic
and the Triangle Classic, Gary is responsible for reviving football
at two of the oldest Historically Black Colleges and Universities –
