Stuart, FL – Willie E. Gary, attorney and chairman of the Black Family Channel, recently hosted the 4th Annual Willie E. Gary Football Classic in Jacksonville, Florida and the Inaugural Willie E. Gary Triangle Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina to help raise awareness of, as well as funds for, Historically Black Colleges and Universities. During the Triangle Classic’s half-time festivities, Willie Gary and his sons Kenneth and Ali Gary presented Shaw University and North Carolina Central University (NCCU) with a donation in the amount of $100,000.

The 4th Annual Willie E. Gary Football Classic and college fair took center stage this past September at the Raines Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. Each year, the Classic is a face-off between the Edward Waters College Tigers and the Shaw University Bears. This year’s Football Classic trophy was presented to Shaw University after its 24-6 win against Edward Waters College. Prior to the game, the Football Classic’s college fair attracted hundreds of children who have the desire to attend college and pursue a rewarding career. Guest speakers including Shaw University President Dr. Clarence Newsome and Edward Waters College President Oswald P. Bronson, Sr., motivated the boys and girls to continue to work hard, stay in school and to strive for academic excellence.

The Shaw University Bears and the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Eagles celebrated the kick-off of the Willie E. Gary Triangle Football Classic, which took place at the O’Kelly Riddick Stadium on the campus of NCCU in Raleigh, North Carolina. This year’s Triangle Classic trophy was presented to NCCU after an exciting and close game with a final score of 37-31. Hundreds attended the post-game “Old School to New School” party which featured R&B sensation the Perfect Image of Mobile, Alabama and music by hip-hop emcee DJ Biz Markie.

“I feel privileged to be able to offer my support to Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” stated Gary. “I would not have the success, nor would I have the education that lead to my success, if Shaw University and  NCCU School of Law had not opened its doors to me,” continued Gary. “The Football Classic and the Triangle Classic represent continued opportunities for young people who have the dream of attaining a higher education.”

The Willie E. Gary Football Classic, Inc. is a community-based organization that serves to create hope and opportunity for students who desire a higher education. Both the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina and the Football Classic in Jacksonville, Florida give recognition to some of the oldest and most respected Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the country.
