66th Southeast Leadership Conference in Hutchinson Island, Florida

Stuart, FL-- Willie E. Gary, prominent attorney and chairman of the Black Family Channel, served as the keynote speaker and was honored with a community service award at Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc.’s 66th Southeastern Regional Leadership Conference. The conference was held at the Marriott Resort in beautiful Hutchinson Island, Florida.

Gary addressed a group of over 200 members of the esteemed sorority during the annual leadership conference’s public meeting. The theme for the conference was “United as One: Vision, Commitment and Dedication Lead to Success.” Gary commended the attendees for heeding the call for community service and the need for assistance in helping young people attain a higher education. He also challenged them to further extend a hand to the underprivileged and less fortunate and to continue the sorority’s tradition of serving others. During the meeting, Joann G. Loveless, international vice president of Sigma Gamma Rho, Sorority Inc., presented Gary with a community service award for his dedication to serving others and his commitment to helping children through the Gary Foundation. She also presented a $1,000 check to Gary on behalf of the sorority, as a donation to the Gary Foundation.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.’s mission is to enhance the quality of life within the community. Public service, leadership development and education of youth are the hallmark of the organization’s programs and activities. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. addresses concerns that impact society educationally, civically and economically.

“It is our responsibility to reach out to boys and girls and serve as role models,” said Gary. “We need to continue to lay the groundwork for young people to follow, and help them to realize all the opportunities that are available to them,” continued Gary.

Gary is noted for taking on some of America’s most powerful companies--winning billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Gary is also the Chairman of the Black Family Channel, America’s only minority owned and operated, 24-hour cable network. Known for his philanthropic endeavors, he and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded The Gary Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities – including $10 million to his alma mater Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
