Lake Park, FL-- Willie E. Gary, prominent trial attorney and chairman of the Black Family Channel, recently motivated students at Lake Park Elementary School in Lake Park, Florida, during an FCAT pep rally to encourage them to “Be the Best,” and to score high on the Florida achievement test.

Gary spoke to over 350 boys and girls from grades kindergarten through fifth, in an effort to motivate them to strive for academic excellence and to “Stomp the FCAT.” Gary emphasized the importance of working hard in school, and obeying their teachers and parents. He spoke of his struggles in growing up poor and the integral role education has played in his success. Positive energy filled the air as the children repeated after Gary shouting, “I am somebody!” After the event, students lined up to shake Gary’s hand and to thank him.

“I always look forward to spending some time and sharing my story with our nation’s most valuable resource, our children,” said Gary. Hopefully, my story and my life touched the lives of these young boys and girls and inspired them to be the very best they can be.”

Gary, who is best known in legal circles as “The Giant Killer,” is noted for taking on some of America’s most powerful companies--winning billions of dollars in verdicts and settlements on behalf of his clients. Gary is also the Chairman of the Black Family Channel, America’s only minority owned and operated, 24-hour cable network. Known for his philanthropic endeavors, he and his wife, Dr. Gloria Gary, founded The Gary Foundation, which provides college scholarships to at-risk students who wish to attend college. The Gary’s have donated millions of dollars to help Historically Black Colleges and Universities – including $10 million to his alma mater Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
